Kalibiru National Park
|Kalibiru National Park is about 1.5 hour drive from Jogja or an hour drive from Borobudur Temple managed by a local citizen to be a tourism destination in Kulonprogo, Yogyakarta. When this attraction became popular in social media, it grew too busy and crowded especially during weekend and holiday season.
This tourism destination provides the tourists 3 great things:
1.) Breathtaking view of vast vegetation, Menoreh Hills and Waduk Sermo from heights.
2.) Long but thrilling queue to get that Instagrammable photo spots.
3.) Exciting journey to reach the destination. It is true that the best view comes after the hardest climb. Drove past the steep and narrow road before reaching Kalibiru definitely gives you a fun ride
To be honest, the main attraction is taking a picture on the tree stage. There is 1 big stage and 3 tree stage spots. But don’t be sad, they offer fun adventures too such as flyingfox, canopy walk and adrenaline bridge so you won’t be too bored with nature. If you just want to take a picture on the area and don’t mind some trees in your background, you can also skip the lines and find your own spot. But since you’ve travelled quite a distance then better take that Tree top shot. You have to pay Rp. 15.000 per person to get up to the tree stage and take a picture. You pay additional Rp. 20.000 for 4 pictures taken by their photographers. The wait is pretty long since they allow about 5 minutes per person to take pictures. I suggest you come early so you don’t have to wait too long. Otherwise, the waiting game is about 1 to 1.5 hours. As per my Yogyakarta Itinerary, went first for a Borobudur Sunrise tour then head straight to kalibiru national park around 7am. Mind you, it’s the best timing.
Despite its remote location, Kalibiru offers amenities to facilitate the tourists: guiding staffs, warungs, toilet, prayer room, outbound facilities, homestay, parking area and reasonable price. Kudos to local villager who manage Kalibiru. Very recommended!
Your safest and convenient way of getting around this area is through hiring a personal tour driver. Lucky that throughout our Yogyakarta trip we had the best Jogja tour driver. Click JogjaTour Driver for booking. And so my simple tip before you go is to avoid using slippery footwear as you still have to walk through a slope heading to the main area and of course do not ever forget to bring camera to capture your best instagram photos! Have fun!
Now take that Instagram selfie! :p
